And now for something completely different. Currently the All Motor LS record is a bit over 1100 crank horsepower. Judson Massingill's 5 speed high compression 433 cubic inch C5-R headed motor is spinning over 10k rpm through the 1/4 mile traps at class mandated weight and running 8.0 quarter mile times. This new cylinder head is a radical departure...more like a scaled down NHRA Pro Stock head designed to fit on a standard bore spacing LS engine. We'll likely see these new heads on a car in mid to late 2015.

Underhead cam. That sounds fancier than pushrod, I like it.

Pffft! VW beetle boxer engines are 'under head cam' since the 1930's, nothing new here.

* I'm seriously joking.

Big fan of those too actually! We've cutting the cylinders on one as we speak. The old 2198cc was turbocharged with megasquirt in a '58 beetle before an errant downshift led to a big new motor that should be on the road by June.

Oh my, my pants just got tighter. My first car was a 56 beetle, bought it when I was 15 and did a partial restoration on it. Drove it on my learners permit(pre-licence) and for 6 months on full on probationary license. Once I'd mastered the 36hp 1100cc I got a 70 bug and swaped the 56 body on to the 'new' floorpan(on my own!) got 12v electrics,disc brake/ball joint front end and the 1500 gearbox. Found a 1835cc twin port that was just rebuilt, took dad with me on the inaugural run. He asked me to stop and let him out before we got out of my street, said something about the throttle not being a switch(my right foot was very heavy when I was invincible) and walked home! I need a beetle in my life again.

Yep, good times. his old motor did 135 with a good amount of rake and an estimated 250whp, but never had a chance to put it on a chassis dyno before we popped it. I'll do a nice post of the build we're doing now when it's complete.
